  • Unlike individual giving, businesses mainly support charity out of self interest, rather than for philanthropic reasons alone. Company giving provides around £400m each year to the sector, mostly from cash donations. Businesses like to increase their community involvement and have an obligation to invest in the communities in which they have an impact.

    The main reasons for business giving are:

    • Recognition, media attention and publicity
    • To create goodwill amongst local people and other local businesses
    • To be associated with causes that relate to the business
    • Government pressure
    • Members of staff may be associated with the cause
